Voice - Elementary Students

Post your response to Songs Of The First Nations.

Response Stance
Go back into the poem and consider the following questions:
  • Who is the speaker in the poem?
  • What words, phrases, and/or lines reveals the poet's voice - his values and beliefs?
  • What qualities make a poet's voice forceful, distinctive, and memorable?
As a writer, express your vision of what you perceive to be a social ill through poetry. Poetry is a vehicle for social commentary – a way to develop people we need to notice and understand.

    The person who is speaking in the poem is a First Nations child or youth.

    The poet wants us to understand that our elders are important and so are we.

    I remember the poem because it makes me feel special.

    I think that the people that was speaking was the first nations.

    People will always remeber us even every body in the hole world.

    Everbody is special in the world.

    The poem is intersting because the poet knows that he or she will be an ancestor too.
